Hey there Goal Getter 🙂
When I first got on social media, I used it for personal use. It was new, exciting fun and a great way to meet new friends, stay connected to old friends and it provided a perfect opportunity to connect with people from all over the globe. Somewhere along the way, I started my first company (about 5 years ago) and began to use social media to market my business online. Initially I wasn’t a fan of online marketing as I really didn’t know the ends and outs of it.
Well for one, most consumers are looking for your online profile. Consumers want to check you out online, EVEN before having a conversation with you. When they visit your online profile they are immediately developing an opinion (hopefully positive) about you and your brand. They’re also learning about your offers and getting a sense of how you may be able to help them.
I like to think of marketing in the way that I do flirting. Through marketing you flirt with your customer/client and your social media profiles are the 1st step to them getting to know you.
Simply put, your social media profiles helps your customers decide if they want to go on that first date with you. It helps them determine whether they want to sign-up for a class, buy your product or hire you for coaching or consulting. Basically, upon entering your page/site/profile, your customer determines if they like you enough to invest in you.
Just think about that for one moment – if your customer came to your page right now would they feel drawn to make an investment? Would they be drawn to reach out to you for that first date? Would they like what they see?
I know you may thinking “okay, I get that I should be marketing to (flirting with) my customers via social media, but why should I be on Instagram specifically?”
I could tell you many reasons you should be promoting on Instagram, but let me share just a few here…
One: I am kind of bias – I am just a personal fan of Instagram. I LOVE everything about this platform – from the layout, to the brands that I follow, to the direct messaging feature AND I must say, I am a now a fan of the Instagram Stories.
Two: Instagram is very user friendly and straight forward. In today’s every changing and fast paced world, it’s easier to digest pictures than text. And when using Instagram, considering that it’s a picture sharing platform, you have the ability to capture your audience’s attention quickly.
Three: As of June, 2016 the Instagram community has grown to over 500 million Instagrammers. What this means, is that YOUR customer IS on Instagram. If you’re intent is to reach your customer, why not do so via Instagram?
Four: Brands on Instagram have greater engagement then those on other profiles like Facebook, Twitter, etc. IG engagement ranks in at about 4 percent, the engagement on other networks is less than 0.1 percent.(source: Forrester)
FIVE: 70% of Instagram users have looked up a brand on the platform. This means that of those 500 million, 350 million are on Instagram looking for their favorite products/services/brands to connect with and purchase from. (source:Iconosquare)
I could go on, but this should be enough to get you excited about promoting your biz on Instagram AND don’t be shy about it. As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, and what better way to tell your story than a thousand words at a time. Remember, Instagrammers love connecting with brands and so there is huge potential for anyone who marketing their services via this platform.
If you’re not sure if your IG profile is flirt worthy, I created a checklist of things for you to consider so that you can clean up your profile and step your Instagram flirt game up. Download the checklist here.

I love you like XO!
